More Than 35 Years Serving Minnesota Families

Compassionate resolution for child custody and other family law concerns

Who we are

Resolution Through Negotiation

At the law office of Janet L. Goehle, Attorney at Law, in St. Paul, Minnesota, I have devoted more than 35 years in practice exclusively to family law and the welfare of children of divorcing and never-married parents.

My own experience as a St. Paul family law lawyer has shown me that the most effective way to approach unresolved issues of a divorce or other conflict is to begin at points of agreement. The most common objective on which parents concur is to minimize the impact of divorce on any children in the family and act with their best interests as the top priority.

Focus on Children

Family law issues involving children are often stressful and consequential. Where possible, it is best that children retain a relationship with both parents, and that both parents sign on to a plan they both support. At my law firm, Janet L. Goehle, Attorney at Law, I offer more than 35 years of experience negotiating sustainable agreements for difficult family law conflicts; particularly those involving children. I take a holistic approach to legal representation. I aim to reduce stress and conflict by proactively dealing with the emotions that can cause flare-ups and stalemates between spouses or unmarried parents.

Janet L. Goehle Attorney

Whether you need a lawyer to help you navigate the complex matters of divorce, child custody, child support, or to modify an existing divorce decree, we operate from the philosophy that effective legal representation is not synonymous with mindless aggression.  In fact, as a general rule, family law issues are resolved more efficiently and cost-effectively through mediation and negotiation then they are through aggressive litigation.

Seeking Agreement Before Argument

A combative, winner-take-all approach to family law concerns can backfire, damaging relationships and draining finances. That is why my practice prioritizes collaborative resolutions where possible. As a qualified neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice, I serve as a third party in my role as mediator or in my role as an early neutral evaluator (ENE), facilitating agreements between divorcing or never-married couples. I also serve as a parenting time expeditor (PTE) and a parenting consultant (PC) to help create sustainable plans that best serve the children and encourage cooperation between parents. I recognize, however, that in some cases, negotiation is not possible. In those cases, I am fully capable of protecting your rights in family court regarding custody, parenting time, support, property division and other matters.
