Divorce seems to bring out the worst in some people. Whether it’s trying to hide assets during the trial or failing to pay the proper amount of spousal support, some individuals are determined to make divorce a war that must be won at any cost. Now it seems that one prominent surgeon is facing criminal charges for trying to steal documents from a court of law.

Dr. Eric Braverman, a well known and popular neurosurgeon, is currently on trial for trying to steal child custody documents during his divorce trial. Details from his criminal trial indicate that Braverman has been charged with one count of petty larceny and faces up to 90 days in jail if convicted.

Testimony at the misdemeanor trial by the court clerk who was assigned to Braverman’s divorce trial state that during the proceedings she had turned her back on the surgeon for a few moments. When she turned back around she saw Braverman handing two one page psychiatric reports to his attorney who was attempting to put the papers in her bag. The reports allegedly state the Braverman should not be allowed to visit his three sons. The papers were entrusted to the clerk.

The clerk then accosted the attorney and demanded to know what was going on. She then took possession of the papers while the neurosurgeon insisted that he had done nothing wrong. However, the clerk then says that moments later Braverman offered her an unspecified amount of money if she would allow him to keep the reports.

Disputes are not uncommon during a divorce. However, any Minnesota resident who is going through the divorce process may want to speak to a family law services attorney in order to understand what type of disputes need to be settled during the process.
